Hammies Just Wanna Have Fun!
Every half-year, the Publications Committee (or PubliCie for short) conducts a PubliCie Fun Activity (PFAs)! This is a serious and continuous field study on the best places to have fun in Enschede. As a small student city, it might seem like there is not much to do. So where do you go when you want to have a fun time? That’s what PubliCie is here to find out!
This article goes through the committee’s PFAs since 2022. We hope it gives you inspiration for organising your own fun activity!
1. Drinks as Stanislaus
Are you just a chill hamster who wants to spend a nice evening out in the centre with their friends, sharing a couple of beers and a couple more laughs? Then look no further than Stanislaus, with a wide collection of classic and funky drinks, as well as food and snacks to keep your tummy warm. This bar can host a big group splendidly (if it’s not already packed -- so watch out!) or, if you’re looking for something more intimate, it can perfectly suit fun and intellectual conversations with a partner as well.
When PubliCie visited, the committee managed to bond nicely over random conversations, held beneath warm lights. Everyone left with a warm and fuzzy feeling, and they were sure they would love having another PFA together as well!
2. Escape rooms
There’s nothing like committee bonding over puzzle-solving! Enschede has some amazingly crafted escape rooms by the train station, located on a large floor in an unsuspecting building. Can you feel the thrill already? Their main themes for the escape rooms are music knowledge (from around the 80s-90s) and country knowledge (centred around an airport aesthetic). It is perfect for anyone looking to scratch their brain, challenge what they know, and do everything they can to escape!
To humbly brag, when PubliCie went to one of these escape rooms, they cracked all the puzzles except for one bonus puzzle! Think you can do better? Oho, then bring it on!
3. Laser tag competition
It’s one thing to have a laser tag competition among committee members… but that’s boring! PubliCie loves to do things the fun way, remember? So, this wasn’t an ordinary laser tag outing: This was a laser tag competition to see who Ockham’s BEST committee is! From the nerds in SympCie (symposium committee) to the socialites in ACCIE (activities committee), Ockham’s members competed against each other to settle the score once and for all. The champion…? Why don’t you joni Ockham to find out? ;)
Most recently as well, the committee had its first PFA of the academic year 2024-2025. With the fall-winter season and That One Week Of Snow, PubliCie was certain: this time, they’d go ice skating! With fresh faces and old blood alike, the committee once again proved that there is no place in Enschede that wouldn’t be fun if it was with the right company! It is always important to realise that, while the type of activity certainly lends itself to the enjoyment of a group, it usually also boils down to how open you are with each other.
