Hammy goes to International Film Festival Rotterdam 2025!
You might be wondering, what is the IFFR? Well, my dear Ockhamsters, it is the International Film Festival Rotterdam! Which takes place in, you guessed it, Rotterdam.
Hammie and I spent 2 weekends watching a lot of movies that were sometimes even a world premiere! The most memorable movie personally was ‘Soft Leaves’ by Miwako van Weyenberg because it was about a young half-japanese half-belgian girl who feels estranged to her japanese heritage as she mainly grew up in belgium with her dad. As the dad gets into a coma, her japanese mom and half-sister come to visit which causes some tension in her life. The movie really resonated with me and reminded me of some of my friends who are in a similar situation where they might not feel as close to one of their cultures than the other. The coolest part was that I got to ask questions to the director and also got a picture with her!
All movie theatres in Rotterdam were participating in this festival and the Pathe had some really big halls! I really recommend going to it if you like watching movies!
