Spooky Movies to Watch For Halloween
Are you having trouble deciding what to watch this spooky season? Say no more because here are 5 movies to maximize the spooky-ness!
Pearl (2022)
Have you ever dreamt of being a movie star? Our main girly Pearl certainly has. It’s all she’s ever wanted as she feels stuck in her mundane farm life, and she’ll do anything to get there. This psychological thriller will keep your eyes glued to the screen as the performance Mia Goth gives, literally and figuratively, is something extraordinary. Being a perfect introduction to Ti West’s trilogy, it’s going to get a little bit bloody.
Us (2019)
You might have heard of Get Out by Jordan Peele (which is also a great thriller), however this time I want to talk about his other arguably more scary movie: Us. Like the title suggests, this movie will show the horrors of what it may look like to meet your doppelganger. Are they the bad guys or is that just what you’ve been told? With plenty of creepy auras and thrilling flashbacks to the main character’s youth, the film also manages to provide interesting social commentary you’ll be thinking about for a while. Slight warning, you might want to reconsider entering mirror rooms ever again.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Not gonna lie, this one might make it difficult to fall asleep after watching it. Even in their sleep, the teenagers of this midwestern town are not able to escape from their monsters. Once you get killed in your sleep, it’s also over in the real world. Together with her friends, Nancy tries to uncover this mystery and kill this monster before it is too late. If you’re in the mood for a cool 80s vibe, and see where Stranger Things have gotten their inspiration from, this one’s for you.
Suspiria (1977)
This classic with an amazing score will actually jump scare you despite how old the production looks. A story full of suspense and drama about an American girl trying to make it in Germany at the most prestigious ballet school; only to find out there are many secrets behind the scenes of the school. Without spoiling too much, go ahead and enjoy this audiovisual masterpiece!
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
What’s more spooky than vampires? This horror-comedy will have you dying of laughter with the non-stop silly vampire jokes all throughout the film. From your roommates not doing the dishes to accidentally turning regular humans into vampires, this mockumentary will have you relate to this bunch of adorable, centuries-old blood suckers. If you’re not really into horror and want to watch something more lighthearted, I’m sure this movie won’t disappoint. There’s even a series with the same title if you can’t get enough of this nonsense!
